Mangano: New department will save county money

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano has announced a plan to create a new department that he says will help consolidate the county?s workforce and save Nassau money.

The Office of Shared Services would house workers who do support services for the county's 47 different agencies, including financial management, payroll and personnel and IT support.

With hundreds of those workers expected to retire this summer, Mangano says his administration will figure out exactly how many of those jobs are needed under the new department.

Minority Leader Diane Yatauro (D-Glen Cove) says she doesn?t see where the savings come from because the workers were retiring anyway.

Mangano hopes to have the new department in place by fall.
