Bill to oust top cop Dormer put aside

The Suffolk County Legislature has put aside a bill that called for the firing of Police Commissioner Richard Dormer.

Two other bills that were being considered by the Legislature were also tabled.

One proposal would limit future police commissioners to a four-year term while the other would have given the Legislature the power to remove the commissioner from his post.

The Legislature has been trying to oust Dormer, who some say has mismanaged police staffing and put residents' safety at risk.
