Police: Woman rescued from under fishing pier

Suffolk police say Marine Bureau officers rescued a woman who fell under a fishing pier tonight at Captree State Park.

According to authorities, 45-year-old Bridgette Luby fell off the pier and was dragged under by strong currents at around 6:23 p.m. Two officers who responded by boat didn't immediately see Luby, but nearby fishermen helped point her out, police say.

Along with the help of bystanders, police were able to rescue Luby from a piling underneath the pier where she was holding on, officers say.

Luby, of Bay Shore, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for an injury evaluation.
