2 LI Catholic schools closing doors for good

Two Catholic schools on Long Island are shuttering their doors forever as the school year comes to an end.

The Diocese of Rockville Centre closed Our Lady of Lourdes School in Massapequa Park today and will shutter Corpus Christi School in Mineola today, blaming the recession and declining enrollment.

Only 77 students enrolled this fall in Our Lady of Lourdes, compared to 128 last year. Critics also blame big money the diocese has paid out in the priest sex-abuse scandal.

Corpus Christi has been open 89 years and Our Lady of Lourdes school was founded in 1941.

Many parents say they will enroll their children in other Catholic schools for next year.
