Ex-Suffolk Leg. Mystal gets 5 years probation

The former deputy presiding officer of the Suffolk County Legislature was sentenced to five years probation for claiming to live on Long Island after he had moved to Florida.

Prosecutors say Elie Mystal signed a petition in 2008 that said he lived at a Copiague home in his district when he was actually splitting his time between Huntington Station and Palm Beach County, Fla.

Mystal faced two counts of third-degree grand larceny and one count of offering a false instrument for filing. He will also pay $84,000 in restitution.
