Severe storms wreak havoc across Long Island

Severe, quick storms wreaked havoc yesterday afternoon across Long Island.

At one point, more than 20,000 LIPA customers were without power. More than half of those outages were in the Town of North Hempstead.

Some Great Neck residents say their neighborhood is littered with fallen trees and branches and their homes are without electricity.

Meanwhile, in Lindenhurst, a tree toppled down on a group of boys playing basketball on Monroe Avenue. They are all expected to be fine.

The storms also caused disruptions on the Oyster Bay and Port Washington Long Island Rail Road lines.
