Former Leg. Corbin gets 18 months for tax evasion

Former Nassau County Leg. Roger Corbin was sentenced yesterday to 18 months behind bars for filing false tax returns, tax evasion and making false statements.

After months of professing his innocence, Corbin pleaded guilty to a seven-count federal indictment in April. He admitted he didn't pay taxes on the more than $225,000 he received from a builder working on government contracts.The former legislator was also ordered to pay more than $92,000 in restitution. He faced up to 11 years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines if convicted by a jury.

Corbin is expected to surrender to authorities on Aug. 5.
