LI firefighters wage battle over the grill

Firefighters from four Long Island towns took to the grill yesterday to focus on safe cooking and some bragging rights. The second annual Best Firehouse Burger Cook-Off focused on safety tips, like making sure people know to keep their tanks closed after cooking. Firefighters also recommend that cooks ensure their grill fittings are proper and that there are no leaks. Firefighters from Bethpage, Mineola, Syosset and Wantagh took part in the battle, with contenders including the "Irresistible Syosset Gonzola Burger," the "Mineola Bully Burger" and the "Charlie the Tuna Burger." The Wantagh Fire Department's "6th Battalion Fat Guy Burger" was declared the winner.
