Hempstead veterans' service center reopens

A Town of Hempstead veterans? service center that the state ordered closed last year due to budget cuts was reopened yesterday.

The service center at Hempstead Town Hall provided thousands of veterans with medical help, counseling and financial assistance. Once it closed, vets had to go to St. Albans in Queens or the VA hospital in Northport.

"Going into the Independence Day weekend, what better time than to say once again thank you to our veterans?? Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray said at the reopening ceremony.

The veterans? service booth is open every weekday from 9 a.m. until 4:45 p.m.
