Obama unveils broadband expansion plan

President Barack Obama announced today a new plan to create jobs by investing in dozens of projects that will expand broadband Internet service to poor, rural areas of the nation.

The president says the projects are expected to create 5,000 construction and installation jobs nationwide.

"Once we emerge from the immediate crisis, the long-term economic gains to communities that have been left behind in the digital age will be immeasurable," Obama says.

The money for the Internet expansion projects comes from the taxpayer-financed economic stimulus package.
