Natural spring tap back on in Cold Spring Harbor

Cold Spring Harbor residents are high and dry no longer.

Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone announced today that the natural spring tap in the village is flowing again.

After decades of use, the town abruptly turned the water off last month because it comes from an unauthorized source not subject to rigorous testing. Officials said years of dumping in the water put residents who used the water at risk.

The county tells News 12 Long Island that federal, state and local laws prevent the use of unregulated sources of water for drinking. More than 300 people signed a petition in June to get their natural water source back.
