Holiday heat wave greets Long Islanders
Long Islanders spent Monday braving 90-degree temperatures and are preparing for more heat as many return to work today.
A heat advisory remains in effect today as highs will continue to be in the low to mid-90s.
Thousands flocked to the beach to try to cool off. State parks officials have extended lifeguard hours until 8 p.m. for the rest of the week.
For those working and playing outdoors, Nassau University Medical Center Medical Directors Dr. Steven Walerstein says it is important to remember the excessive heat can be dangerous. He says it is best to stay indoors and out of the sun.
