Heat wave fueling brush fires around Long Island

Officials say the heat is fueling brush fires around Long Island.

A brush fire started on one side of Ocean Parkway yesterday by Cedar Beach and jumped the highway.

Traffic was backed up for miles. Officials think it was caused by someone tossing a lit cigarette from a car window.

In addition, cars were charred by another brush fire in Farmingdale. Officials say they were parked behind a movie theater off Route 110 when a grassy area nearby went up in flames yesterday.

There is no word on what sparked the blaze.
