LIPA: Conserve power to prevent strain on system

LIPA says the heat wave has Long Island using record amounts of power to keep cool.

LIPA says their customers used the most power yesterday, more than 5,800 megawatts. That number beats the record set in August of 2006.

There were thousands of outages across Long Island yesterday because of blown fuses and transformers.

LIPA is asking residents to conserve power to prevent strain on the system.
