Nassau unit brings CSI techniques to crash scenes

A police unit in Nassau has the unique task of reconstructing car crash scenes to determine if the ?accidents? are indeed accidents.

The Vehicular Crimes and Reconstruction Section or "V Cars" unit is made up of four veteran Nassau homicide detectives who are specially trained to analyze and collect evidence at fatal car crashes.

The detectives, who have trained all over the country, say they close most of their cases. The unit must figure out what every tire tread, dent and ding means to determine whether the crash was a crime.

The unit also analyzes information from the vehicles? black boxes, much like those on an airplane.
