Firefighters put out Cold Spring Harbor brush fire

Firefighters put out a brush fire that broke out in Cold Spring Harbor this morning as temperatures climbed into the triple digits for the second day in a row.

Fire officials say the fire started small, but quickly spread out through a densely wooded area of Cold Spring Harbor State Park thanks to strong winds and extremely dry conditions.

About 100 firefighters from some 20 fire departments responded to the blaze and managed to get it under control.

No firefighters were injured. The cause of the brush fire is under investigation.
