LIPA crews working to restore power on LI

LIPA crews were working this afternoon to restore power in Farmingdale after a transformer blew due to excessive heat and electricity use.

Tim Solomine, of Terry G's Steak and Seafood Grill, says he's been in the dark since 5 p.m. yesterday. Solomine says he's lost thousands of dollars in business and tried to salvage whatever food he could with dry ice.

The power also went out along Jericho Turnpike in Floral Park, taking out traffic lights and businesses. LIPA President and CEO Kevin Law says there is enough power to meet the increased energy demand, but many fuses and transformers cannot handle it.

As of 10 p.m., LIPA is reporting 1,242 outages on Long Island.

If you have an outage to report, call the LIPA Hotline at 1-800-490-0075
