Selden man accused of hiring someone to torch his pizzeria
Officials say a Selden man has been charged with hiring someone to try to torch his own restaurant in January 2009.
Police say 26-year-old Michael Massian had someone place Molotov cocktails next to air vents on the roofs of six businesses at a strip mall on Route 112 in Coram in order to burn down his restaurant, Apizza Italy.
Flames damaged the restaurant, but not the neighboring businesses, police say. No one was hurt.
Last June, police also arrested Massian's friend Bryan Vite, who they say helped Massian torch the pizzeria because it was allegedly failing.
Massian is being held on $250,000 bail. His case is going to be presented to a grand jury, and he could face upgraded charges.
