Boy recovering after nearly drowning in Huntington

A 2-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital tonight after nearly drowning in a backyard pool in Huntington.

Police say the child was found at around 7 p.m. last night in the bottom of a pool at a home on Downey Drive.

Sgt. Brendan Forte, of the Suffolk County Police Department, was the first to arrive on the scene and immediately started administering CPR to the boy. Another police car that pulled up rushed the boy to the hospital.

The 2-year-old is being treated at Cohen Children's Medical Center, where he is currently listed in critical but stable condition.
