Montauk man arrested in cold case murder

Suffolk police say they have arrested a Montauk man for playing a role in the death of a man in South Carolina 17 years ago.

Officials say the 1992 shooting death of 22-year-old sailor James Alan Horton was investigated by detectives and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Initially no arrests were made and the case went cold.

However, earlier this week police say a man from Montana gave a statement that he was involved in Horton's murder and sexual assault, prompting NCIS detectives to issue an arrest warrant for Thomas Solheim, of Montauk.

Solheim, 53, was arrested yesterday and was supposed to be arraigned on murder charges today, but authorities say he had a seizure and was taken to South Side Hospital. His arraignment was postponed.
