Bob Sheppard laid to rest in Baldwin
Yankee fans, family and friends paid their final respects to legendary announcer Bob Sheppard today in Baldwin as he was laid to rest.
The man known to many as the Voice of Yankee Stadium died Sunday at 99. Sheppard announced players from Joe DiMaggio to Derek Jeter.
"Although many have tried, no one can ever imitate that voice of his," said Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman.
The funeral was held at St. Christopher's Church in Sheppard's hometown of Baldwin. Attendees included former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Giants owner John Mara.
Mara said Sheppard deserves to be in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
This Saturday, Yankees will also say goodbye to owner George Steinbrenner, who died Tuesday at age 80.
