LI doctor pleads guilty to illegal Rx trade

A Massapequa doctor pleaded guilty today to nine felony counts of selling prescriptions for oxycodone to patients as young as 18 years old.

The mother of 23-year-old Timothy Kroll, who died after becoming addicted to heroin and painkillers, attended today's hearing in Mineola and shouted "monster" at Dr. Saji Francis.

Francis was caught on surveillance video selling prescriptions drugs to undercover officers. The Krolls made it their mission to see that Francis serves time for his activities.

However, after Francis entered the plea, the judge told him he would be sentenced to a maximum of six months in prison. Now, Kroll's parents are asking other people to whom Francis prescribed drugs to come forward.

Francis will be sentenced Sept. 20. His medical license has been suspended pending further investigation.
