Centereach park renamed in honor of fallen soldier

A soldier from Centereach who was killed in Iraq nearly five years ago was honored today when a local park was renamed after him.

Staff Sgt. James McNaughton was killed by sniper fire in August of 2005. Now, a recently renovated park in Centereach, where McNaughton played baseball as a child, will bear his name.

That is not the only honor McNaughton received from his community. His friend Eric Wiggins says he named his son after the fallen soldier, who was also an NYPD officer.

As soon as all the renovations in the park are complete, a plaque will go up detailing McNaughton's life and legacy.
