Teen mom charged in crash that injured daughter

A teenager from Bay Shore is accused of drunken driving and causing an accident that left her daughter on life support.

Eighteen-year-old Samantha Alfaro allegedly veered into oncoming traffic on South Oyster Bay Road in March. According to police, she hit a tree and her 3-year-old daughter suffered spinal injuries.

Police say the child wasn't in a car seat - just a seat belt. She remains on life support.

Alfaro was arraigned today and faces 13 charges including endangering the welfare of a minor, DWI, reckless driving and assault. She is expected back in court in August and could spend up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
