Florida woman charged in alleged LI adoption scam

A Florida woman was arraigned today on charges she carried out an adoption scam in Nassau County.

Prosecutors say Jessica Dreves took $7,000 from a Port Washington couple, promising she would give them her baby, but never did. They say Dreves also promised the baby to another couple.

Lisa and Joseph Weiner say they sent Dreves money for food, clothing and rent, but lost contact with her in late September.

Dreves is charged with third-degree grand larceny and faces up to seven years in prison. She is due back in court Sept. 21.
