Jack Abrams Intermediate School to close amid violence
The Huntington School Board voted Monday night to close Jack Abrams Intermediate School amid a string of violence in the area.
The board voted 4-3 during an emergency school board meeting prompted by four shootings since July 1.
Some parents who have children in the school said they were displeased by the decision. "I am ashamed to be a part of this school district, and I never thought I would feel that way," one parent said.
Some say the board is not being fair to the primarily minority neighborhood that surrounds the school that wants to have a school in its community.
The board said the school may still remain open for administrative purposes, as well as for some special education classes.
