Students at John W. Dodd Middle School in Freeport are mourning tonight after the sudden death of a 12-year-old classmate.News 12 Long Island has learned that seventh-grade student Camille Scott was walking into class yesterday afternoon when she collapsed. Freeport School Superintendent Dr. Kishore Kuncham says the day before she died, Scott went to see the school nurse, complaining of back pain. After leaving school early Wednesday and skipping her choir performance that night, Camille returned to school yesterday. But at the end of the day, she went to her last class at about 2 p.m. and collapsed. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after. Today, students and faculty paid tributes to Scott, remembering her as a kind girl, a cheerleader and a gifted student. Police say an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of the 12-year-old's death.A toy drive which was scheduled to take place at the school tomorrow will now be held in Scott's honor.
