Nassau seniors warned about scammers

Senior citizens in Nassau County are being urged to watch out for fake utility workers after two elderly men were targeted by the thieves.

The latest incident happened in Jericho Wednesday, when police say an 84-year-old man was approached by two men who asked him if he wanted his gutters cleaned.

Police say as the senior talked to one man, he spotted a second man sneaking upstairs. When the 84-year-old threatened to call police, both men fled empty-handed in a white van.

On Tuesday, authorities say an 80-year-old Massapequa Park man was targeted by a man posing as a utility worker, who distracted him while his accomplice went upstairs and stole jewelry.

It remains unknown if the same pair is responsible for both incidents.
