Now, Mauriello has made a full recovery and survived his first dual meet since surviving the deadly disease.
Mauriello says he is in the best shape of his life after putting in hard work during the off season.
MRSA is commonly spread during contact sports through abrasions or wounds.
Coach Chris Messian says he says the warning signs but still was shocked at what happened.
