Forever with Fido: Human ashes now allowed in pet cemeteries
The loss of a pet can be heartbreaking, but now doting pet owners can spend an eternity alongside their furry friends. The state's Division of Cemeteries has lifted a ban on burying human ashes at pet cemeteries. It's something some Long Island pet lovers say they wish had happened sooner. Peter and Alexis Callhill, of Nesconset, visit the grave of their dog, Clancy, several times each year. They say they're happy to hear of the change. "There was such a comfort during our lives, you know, it's a shame to be parted with them," Peter Callhill says. The owner of a Huntington pet shelter says it may mean new business for local pet cemeteries.
