Hundreds turn out to break record for most menorahs lit on Hanukkah

Hundreds of people turned out this evening to the Merrick Jewish Centre to attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the most menorahs lit at once in one place.
The previous record, according to the book, was 358 menorahs.
In all, organizers say at least 780 menorahs were lit tonight. Some people brought along multiple menorahs to help boost the record.
"It's an incredible event," says Meredith Rubinfeld. "I mean, it's a chance to be with your community, to be with your family."
To make it official, independent observers were on hand to count the number of menorahs lit. Those in attendance say they're happy to have had the chance to break the record.
