A mother and her 2-year-old son were found dead in a North Bay Shore apartment yesterday, according to Suffolk police.

Police say the mother, identified as 21-year-old Shakeela Planter, was a dietician at Huntington Hospital and hadn?t been seen or heard from in more than two days. The landlord, who police believe lives upstairs, went to check on her last night and found her dead in her bedroom.

When police arrived, they then discovered the toddler.

Homicide detectives are investigating. There are no obvious causes of death and no sign of forced entry, according to authorities.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted by tomorrow.
