Elderly woman found dead in early-morning Selden fire

Fire officials are investigating after they say they found an elderly woman dead in her apartment after an early-morning fire broke out in her bedroom in Selden.

Officials say the fire broke out in the apartment of 69-year-old Marie Mahoney at the St. Joseph's Village Apartment Complex around 1:30 a.m.

Firefighters say they had to use thermal gear to locate Mahoney and say they found her body lying next to her bed.

Authorities say they aren't sure if Mahoney had any surviving relatives.

Officials say they are still investigating the cause of the fire but say it was not a Christmas tree fire.
