Dozens of new recruits were sworn in to the Suffolk County Police Department today at a ceremony held at the county's community college campus in Brentwood. The 60 recruits were the best and brightest selected out thousands of hopefuls who took a written exam back in 2007. Among the recruits are 12 women, including Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer's daughter. Dormer is due to step down as Suffolk's top cop next week. The recruits will go on to six months of rigorous training before officially becoming Suffolk County police officers.
