Dems keep majority in Suffolk; GOP holds on to majority in Nassau

The new Suffolk County executive will be working with a Democratic-controlled legislature as Democrats have apparently held onto their majority in the Suffolk Legislature.

In Nassau, the GOP kept the majority 11-to-8.

In one of the big races, Democrat Carrie Solages defeated longtime Nassau Republican Legislator John Ciotti in the 3rd Legislative District. That follows allegations of racism against a Ciotti worker caught on videotape.

Unofficial results show Solages beat Ciotti 52 percent to 48 percent.
