Cops arrest Lindenhurst man in connection with 4 burglaries

Police have arrested a Lindenhurst man who they say is responsible for a string of burglaries that happened over the past two months.

Bernie Deredita, 19, has been charged with four counts of burglary in the second degree.

According to police, Deredita burglarized the same house on Grand Avenue in September and November, and broke into residences on Byrd Street and North Indiana Avenue in Lindenhurst in October, stealing jewelry, money and credit cards.

Courtnie Deangelis, the owner of the house that was targeted twice by the suspected robber, says she used Facebook to help catch the perpetrator.

Deangelis says after her home was robbed for the first time, she installed multiple security cameras. Earlier this month, the cameras captured a man knocking on her door and then trying to break into the house.

Deangelis posted the burglar's photo on Facebook, which she says generated multiple tips that led to the suspect's arrest.

Police say they are now investigating if Deredita may be behind other robberies in the Lindenhurst area as well.
