Nassau, Suffolk police step up holiday DWI patrols

Police in Nassau and Suffolk counties are warning residents who plan on drinking at holiday celebrations to keep off the roadways, and they say they're beefing up their drunken driving patrols starting tonight.County Executive Ed Mangano (R-Nassau) says tonight is one of the worst nights to be out on the roads."Today is known as Black Wednesday," Mangano says. "It's the biggest bar night of the year, and while we wish our residents a great celebration, we warn them not to drink and drive."In Suffolk County, deputy sheriffs and highway patrols with the county police department will be stepping up DWI enforcement. They say they'll be looking for cars with their headlights off, drivers who don't stay in their lanes and aggressive driving.
