Mattituck group rescues not cats or dogs, but donkeys

A Mattituck organization specializes in rescuing and rehabilitating some four-legged creatures not seen every day on Long Island: donkeys. Members of the East End Ass Whisperers (EEAW) say they have rescued donkeys from all over the country. Some are saved from slaughterhouses, where they'd be turned into dinner for other animals. Others were found sickly or abandoned. The group's director says the donkeys are used in educational programs. EEAW also tries to find new homes for the donkeys when possible.
