Mangano unveils new Nassau County tax assessment system
County Executive Ed Mangano (R-Nassau) and Comptroller George Maragos unveiled the new "good faith" property tax assessment system today for Nassau County residents.
Mangano says the new tax grievance process is quicker and easier for homeowners. He says the county will review, negotiate and settle with grieving homeowners within three months after filing an appeal and before they pay their tax bill.
The county executive says tens of millions of dollars are wasted every year paying out refunds to homeowners. He says the new system also allows assessments to be based, in part, on the previous year's assessment and any adjustments made by past grievances.
