Police: Man sold heroin near 2 Wantagh schools

Police say they have arrested a Bronx man for dealing heroin out of a Wantagh store located near two schools.

According to officials, a monthlong investigation led to the discovery of illegal drug deals inside the Wantagh Beverage Barn on Beltagh Avenue, just a few feet away from Wantagh High School and Middle School.

Undercover cops say they were able to buy heroin several times from 21-year-old Jason Cruz, who works as a stock boy at the store. Police say in one drug deal alone, Cruz sold an undercover officer 30 bags of heroin.

Cruz was charged with five counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance in or near school grounds.

Wantagh Beverage Barn owner Michael Schwartzman was also taken into custody in the raid on an unrelated warrant for a traffic violation. Schwartzman has vehemently denied there was drug dealing going on inside his business.

Two other men were arrested during the drug bust on charges unrelated to the alleged heroin sales.
