Police arrest teen, baby sitter in N. Bellmore burglary case
Police say they have arrested a teenager who broke into a North Bellmore home, as well as his girlfriend, who worked there as a baby sitter and told him the family would be away. According to investigators, 18-year-old Kayla Carbone tipped off her boyfriend, 19-year-old Christopher Burke, of North Merrick, that the family she works for was heading out of town for the Columbus Day weekend.A few weeks later, police say Burke broke into the family's North Bellmore home and stole jewelry.The homeowner, Colleen Kiesow, says the thieves got away with $70,000 worth of jewelry. She adds that Carbone had been baby-sitting for her for the past six months. Detectives say they found the suspects by tracing the victims' jewelry in the Pawn Tracking System. Kiesow says some of her stolen items were sold at a store just down the road from her home. Today, Carbone was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and tampering with physical evidence. Burke was charged with burglary.
