Democrats accuse GOP of intimidating voters in Elmont

Nassau Legislature candidate Carrie A. Solages and other Democrats held a news conference today to address concerns of possible voter intimidation by Republicans. The accusations come just days after an incident involving a campaign volunteer working for Solages' opponent, Legislator John Ciotti (R-Elmont), who was caught on camera making a racially charged remark."It's part of a long-standing tradition of voter suppression, voter intimidation in this district," Solages says.Elmont civic leader Pat Nicolosi says Republicans have been intimidating business owners and preventing them from putting up signs against anyone who isn't their candidate. When asked for specific victims of the intimidation, the Democrats say most were too nervous to talk on camera for fear of retribution. Ciotti has denied allegations of voter harassment, while the Nassau Republican Party said in a statement that "this is a desperate charge of a desperate candidate."
