Bellone, Carpenter square off in Suffolk County executive debate

The two candidates for Suffolk County executive went head-to-head in a debate tonight at News 12 Long Island's studios. Steve Bellone, the Democratic supervisor of the Town of Babylon, took on Republican Angie Carpenter, the current treasurer of Suffolk County.

The candidates exchanged jabs on a host of issues, including taxes, jobs and the state of Suffolk's finances. During the debate, Bellone touted his record of cutting taxes as Babylon's supervisor, a statement that's been the hallmark of his campaign so far. Carpenter shot back by bringing up a study that says Babylon puts the heaviest burden on county taxpayers.Suffolk voters will head to the polls on Nov. 8 to choose their next executive.
