New info released on last moments in fatal kayaking accident

New information has surfaced today about the death of NYPD officer Patrick Luca, who died in Smithtown Bay in August in a kayaking accident.

His son Caden, who was found alive, wearing his life jacket, said his father told him "daddy was going to heaven," just moments after the incident happened.

Stephanie Luca says that Patrick told his son to blow his whistle as they floated in the water.

Stephanie is now pushing for a law requiring people using small watercraft to wear a life jacket at all times. News 12 Long Island spoke to Stephanie on Sunday. To watch the full interview with Stephanie, click on the next button under the video player.
