East Meadow bike crash leaves girl orphaned

An 8-year-old girl has been orphaned after her father was killed in an East Meadow motorcycle crash Wednesday night.

Police say Sean Goebel, 44, of Bellmore, had come home from work and decided to take a ride on his motorcycle at around 7 p.m. While riding along Newbridge Road, investigators say Goebel collided with a car driven by an 18-year-old girl.

Goebel's sister, Tara Schoonmaker, says his daughter, Kayla, already lost her mother to cancer five years ago.

"Poor thing has been through so much in such a short little time," Schoonmaker says.

Schoonmaker now hopes her niece will come live with her so that she could provide a loving home for the little girl.

No criminal charges have been filed against the driver of the car that collided with Goebel's motorcycle.
