Police investigating Elmont house explosion

Police are still investigating a house explosion that razed an Elmont home early this morning. The blast occurred at around 1:30 a.m. on Lincoln Street. Fire officials say they are unsure what caused the explosion, which destroyed the home and damaged two others. Officials say the man who lives in the house was at the hospital for an unrelated issue at the time, and that no one in the adjacent homes was hurt. Many neighbors say they were awoken in the middle of the night, and wandered into the street to see what happened. "It was like a bomb," Elmont resident Ricky Ramcharam said. Three firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze.
