Off-duty NYPD officer killed in Southern State crash

? An East Meadow man has been charged with DWI in a crash that killed an off-duty NYPD officer from Long Island.

Jonathan Lopez is charged with vehicular manslaughter and DWI in the death of NYPD officer Kevin Jessup, of Massapequa.

State police say Lopez hit Jessup?s car on the Southern State Parkway near Bethpage State Parkway at around 5:30 a.m. yesterday.

Authorities say Lopez was driving over 100 mph. Police say they found marijuana and a glass pipe in his vehicle.

Lopez?s car also rear-ended a third vehicle.

Jessup, 25, died at the hospital.

According to authorities, Jessup's girlfriend, Crystal Simons, was a passenger in his vehicle and survived the crash. Simons' stepfather, Carlton Hudson, says she is being treated for head injuries at Nassau University Medical Center.

Lopez is being held on $100,000 bond or $50,000 cash bail.
