At least 5 hurt in 7-vehicle pileup on the LIE

At least five people were taken to the hospital following a major pileup on the Long Island Expressway this evening.

A total of six cars and a truck were involved in the crash, which shut down all eastbound lanes near exit 36 at around 5 p.m.

Police say it's still unclear what triggered the accident, but they have confirmed that one car flipped over, sending another car crashing into the divider.

Officials say none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
