Decorated World War II vet remembered by friends, family

? Family and friends are saying goodbye this morning to a decorated World War II hero who fought in the D-Day invasion. Henry Salmaggi, of New Hyde Park, was not only on the front lines of Normandy, but also helped to liberate the concentration camps. Salmaggi was awarded a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. Salmaggi died at the Northport VA Hospital on Monday. He was 88. Salmaggi?s funeral is this morning at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church in New Hyde Park. A military honor guard burial will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
