Long Islanders picking up pieces after hail storm
Some Long Islanders spent the day today cleaning up the aftermath of a summer storm that pummeled parts of Nassau County with large chunks of hail yesterday.
Tennis ball-sized pieces of ice shattered car windshields, dented cars and destroyed backyard furniture in New Hyde Park and Garden City.
"It was so loud, I couldn't believe it," says Cyndee Morales, of New Hyde Park. "I was really scared."
On the East End, the storm brought down several trees and power lines, knocking out electricity to some residents in Riverhead.
Daniel Fodera was in his car during the storm. He's lived through tornadoes in the Midwest, but says he's never experienced anything like this storm.
Chris Turchiano, of Dent Doctor, says since last night, his phone has been ringing non-stop, with motorists asking to have their hail-damaged cars repaired.
Still, residents say they are glad at least no one was hurt by the ice pellets.
